Barcelona Opens as Champions League Favorite for 2016-17

Less than a month remains before the start of the Champions League and at the top as the favorite to win is Barcelona. The winner of the La Liga title in Spain was knocked out of the European competition this past season during the quarterfinals by Atletico Madrid the eventual runners-up.

Barca on a number of online sportsbooks is sitting at +300 to win the Champions League, with Bayern Munich, the reigning champions of the Bundesliga in Germany have the second shortest odds at +400.

Real Madrid, the defending champions and winners of 11 European titles hold the third shortest odds at +500. Real has been victorious twice in the past three seasons and continues to have one of Europe’s and the World’s best starting XI.

Pep Guardiola moved from Bayern Munich to northern England and Manchester City, which can be had at +1200. Guardiola’s presence alone has moved City up the odds board for the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur from the Premier League in England is making an appearance after a long absence but sit at +4000 to win the title, while Leicester City the champions of the English Premier League are +8000 to win the European title. This is the first time ever that Leicester City has reached the coveted league.

Last season Real won the title after defeating Atletico in penalties following a hard fought 120 minutes of football. Atletico at +1200 has good value since they have reached the final in two of the past three years. In both matches, they were very close to winning the title before losing to Real in both.
